Dr. Abouali is an orthopaedic surgeon at Michael Garron Hospital and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. His practice focuses on sports medicine, arthroscopy and non-surgical treatments.

He earned his medical degree and completed orthopaedic surgery residency at McMaster University, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Toronto.

He cares for recreational, amateur and professional athletes, with a special interest in knee, ankle and shoulder injuries. He performs more than 300 ACL reconstructions each year, placing him among Canada’s highest-volume ACL surgeons.

Academic practice

Dr. Abouali’s expertise in orthopaedic sports surgery has led to academic appointments at three leading Canadian universities. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and an Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University and Toronto Metropolitan University. Teaching residents and future orthopaedic surgeons is part of his practice.

Head Physician, Scarborough Shooting Stars; former team orthopaedic surgeon for Toronto FC and the Toronto Argonauts.

National teams

Consultant experience with Canada Basketball’s senior men’s national team and Canada Soccer’s women’s senior national team.

Research & recognition

Dr. Abouali has published peer-reviewed work in sports medicine and presented his groundbreaking research at national and international conferences. In 2026, his peers selected him as one of Toronto’s Top Doctors in Orthopaedic Surgery in Post City’s annual recognition.
